Calendar Girl February 2014: Kaley Cuoco

We're a bit late with our February calendar girl because of all the research needed for our Winter Olympics Venuses over at Venus Observations.  However, we are determined that each lady from the FHM calendar appears in the correct month so we have temporarily stopped looking at pictures of toned snowboarders, skiers and skaters to present Caley Cuoco.

We have to say that we have never heard of Miss Cuoco but it seems she is an American actress.  She appears in a TV show called The Big Bang Theory but we have never heard of that either.

Apparently, it is shown on British TV but it must be one of those late night offerings.  Triple P very rarely watches TV and prefers to catch up on TV series by buying DVD boxed sets.  Incidentally, where has all this recent use of "box set" rather than "boxed set" come from?  It is a set of DVD that has been boxed not a set of boxes!  Annoying!

Anyway The Big Bang Theory is, apparently, an American comedy series and Triple P doesn't watch comedies (particularly American ones which seem to mainly consist of people shouting very loudly and overacting) as he has no sense of humour and finds little to laugh about in the world.

Anyway, Ms Cuoco, who is from California seems very happy to pose in scanty clothing (although not less).  She is not really Triple P's type so we doubt that we will seek out her TV show.

She did appear in a series which Triple P did enjoy, Charmed, but only in the final series which we haven't got to yet.  Something to look forward too, then.

Lizzy Yarnold!

Britain's first (and probably only) gold at Sochi from a peerless Lizzy Yarnold yesterday.  Her gold was the tenth British gold medal of all time at the Winter Olympics, which puts her achievement in perspective.  We have no toboggan/luge runs in Britain whereas Germany, for example, has four.

Oddly, 20% of our gold medals have come in what used to be called Skeleton Bob (which sounds like a character from Pirates of the Caribbean) and is now called Bob Skeleton (which sounds like a dodgy estate agent).

Lizzy set the fastest time on each of her four runs and the course record twice.  Top stuff!

Jenny Jones!

Britain has been competing in the Winter Olympics since the first one, in Chamonix in 1924.  In the previous 21 Winter Olympics and ninety years Britain won just 22 medals in total.  More than a third of these were in the first four, pre-war, games.   When Agent Triple P was younger we usually won nothing, except for a run of three golds for skating between 1976 and 1984.

Today, however snowboarder Jenny Jones won Britain's first ever medal at an event on snow - all our others have been in ice skating or some form of toboggan.  An amazing feat for someone from the far from Alpine city of Bristol.  She was planning to retire in 2012 until she discovered her event, snowboard slopestyle, was making its Olympic debut at Sochi.  Bet she is glad she stuck with it.

Top job, Jenny!

Superbowl: cheerleaders

 Covered up Sea Gal

Triple P doesn't think that he has ever seen a Superbowl with so little footage of the cheerleaders in action.  All we got were few shots of shiny pompoms in the background to the action.

Sterner stuff from Denver

Seattle's girls were well covered up but, in contrast, the Denver ladies were flashing her midriffs until the rain started and they put on jackets. They must be made of tougher stuff in Colorado.  It's a shame that this toughness didn't translate across to their actual team.  Oh dear!  A good result for Triple P's particular friend S, who often travels south from Vancouver to attend Seahawks games, although we suspect that she is more interested in the cheerleaders than the game!

Superbowl: battle of the frozen cheerleaders!

The NFL has never had had an outdoor Superbowl in the cold parts of the country before and at one point, in the last few weeks, it looked as if they would have to move the Superbowl's date because of bad weather.  The weather for today is predicted to be between 4 and 10 degrees which is actually warmer than usual for  East Rutherford.  Indeed, it probably won't even be the coldest Superbowl in history as Superbowl VI in New Orleans saw temperatures of just above 3 degrees.

Anyway, t's all going ahead today with Seattle taking on Denver.  Neither of these teams are ones which Triple P particularly follows.  We perhaps have a slight favourite in Denver as we saw them play in one of the pre-season American Bowls in Wembley in 1987 under the peerless John Elway.

The weather is really going to effect the cheerleaders (or at least their outfits, but both are used to performing in these sorts of temperatures at home. So we are not going to be seeing a whole lot of bare midriffs or, indeed, bare skin at all, sadly.  Both teams have cold weather uniforms but we expect the Seahawks' Sea Gals (good grief!) to cover their legs today!

Aten-shun!  Twop uniforms for Lt Quaco

Seattle has slightly edged the cheerleaders publicity war through the presence in their squad of US Air Force First Lieutenant Alicia Quaco.  Lt Quaco had to persuade her bosses in the USAF that becoming a cheerleader didn't bring the Air Force into disrepute but sold it on the basis of her being an exemplar for showing how multi-facted Air Force people could be.  She has to work hard to juggle both her duties, especially as the Sea Gals have the reputation for being one of, if not the, hardest trained squads in the NFL.  Agent Triple P enjoyed going to a ball with a USAF lady lieutenant (in dress uniform!) once so wishes Lt Quaco a good Superbowl!
